Hello there, and welcome to our blog! We are the Sonchasers – chasing the Son…get it!? Very cheesy, I know, but it’s true. We are, in any case, going on an adventure in just a few weeks and this is the place to read all about it!

Outreach has come to an end, and we’re back home in Oxford. It’s been one crazy ride, full of unforgettable moments, and it’s fondly that we look back on it now. Our last two weeks were filled with making final memories together, finishing up our ministries for the last time and just making the most of the time we had left. Our last week and a half in Kaikoura we continued mostly with the ministries we have been working with for the past weeks. At the Lavender Farm we got to help with the harvesting of the lavender…

Hello friends! This week in the small backpacker town of Kaikoura has been a somewhat quiet one, but a good one still. We love just being part of the community here, both in our hostel and out in Kaikoura. Our hostel, and Kaikoura in general, is not as busy as Tauranga and the Art House, which has made relational ministry a bit frustrating and challenging, but we still do our best with the people we do meet. Making friends is so much fun, and we’ve met a whole bunch of amazing people already!

Hello friends! We have now settled in at our new home in Kaikoura and are getting started with our ministry here, and it feels good to back in this small town! When we arrived on Sunday we were greeted with some familiar faces, who stayed with us for most of the week – the other backpacker’s DTS outreach team, the Radiators! They had…

Kia ora friends! These past two weeks have been full of endings and new beginnings, goodbyes and meetings. We said goodbye to both Tauranga and the North Island and all the people we’ve met and worked with here, but said hello to new places and people! Our sixth week of outreach, our very last one in Tauranga, was a busy one, but a good one. Tauranga has been such a good home…

For most of us this was our first warm Christmas, and our first Christmas away from home, and it sure was strange, but we still loved it! Being away from our families is especially hard around the holidays, but thankfully we have an amazing family right here to lean back on! We spent Christmas Eve at the Wharf Community House’s…

Happy 2020 friends! This week began with the end of our time in beautiful (but very windy) Taupo. A big part of it we spent exploring the area and enjoying the place – looking at the Huka falls, swimming in the lake, wandering around the town, watching sunsets, eating ice cream, hanging out in the thermal hot pools under the stars…

Kia ora! Our third week of outreach was a whirlwind. It’s been full of blessings and incredible experiences, but it’s also been a trying week for all of us. Our friends from Steiger took us to see glow worms on Tuesday night, which was unbelievably beautiful…

This week was church serve week – our very first official week of outreach! It’s a week where all the outreach teams go to different churches for an entire week to serve them, help out in whatever way we can and just be a blessing…

Outreach has officially begun! Our first week is over and we’re starting to get into what life on outreach looks like. We arrived in Tauranga on the North Island on Monday after an epic two-day road-trip featuring a night in Wellington and sights like Lake Taupo and actual Mount Doom…
